Smokescreen // 2021

The broken heart can hide behind a smile. The mind can be tattered by invisible trauma. The soul can use a smokescreen as a shield. Even still, as tears soak into your pillowcase, there is a lifter strong enough to hold you through it, see through that fog that’s burning your eyes and raise you up gently. 

Next year my first poetry collection is being published by Three Owls Publishing. The pages peel back the layers of a heart that was once wilted. Inviting you behind my hurt— into healing and allowing my smokescreen to dissipate. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to lower yours as well.
