World Suicide Prevention Day 2020
Some might say they’re suicidal… but they don’t really want to die, they just want the pain to go away. They aren’t wanting to be a burden, they’re hurting.
Loving Them: Can be as simple as just being there for them & listening *even* if you don’t understand. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US. Don’t wait for a funeral to make time for someone.
Healing: Many things can help you cope in survival mode but only God can fully heal. He is the one who created you, so he’s the one that knows how to fix you. The Holy Spirit is the only One flexible enough to reach every bruise on your heart and lead you into all truth.
Suffering Well: I believe that Jesus has ultimately healed my emotional wounds but I also believe the Spirit of God does profound work through grief and suffering. This purges us, sanctifies us and allows us to participate in the same sufferings of Christ (1 Peter 4:13) while we also enjoy his peace and rest in our unshakable salvation. The Apostle Paul seemingly never stopped suffering but he was never sans joy either. This is a beautiful tension in following Christ, that our hearts can continue to break as he simultaneously comforts us, promises to be near, mends us & disciplines us through it. Whatever trials may come.
Healing for me wasn’t running from my pain (it will likely hunt you down anyway). It was embracing the process in which God uses it.
Legit suicide prevention is the gospel. Human sin & the dark powers that be are the root of all pain. God promises to sovereignly remove all of that one day (soon). Bad news is, without faith in Christ, sinners are enemies of this God who can save & heal - and we are all* guilty of sin. The best news is there’s a Way to go from enemies of God, to children of God. Jesus. He died in our place on that cross for our forgiveness & his glory. He was resurrected on the 3rd day and today he is offering you a new life, a new heart & a renewed mind. Turn from your own ways tired one, follow him. Believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, confess that Jesus is Lord. Accept him as your Savior & u will never be alone. You will have everything to live for - for eternity.
